Claire MacRae is the City Archaeologist at City of York Council (CYC) providing archaeological advice on planning applications and local authority schemes. She has worked at CYC for ten years completing the York Historic Environment Characterisation Project and compiling Heritage Impact Assessments for the Local Plan before moving onto managing one of the most important and sensitive archaeological resources in the country. Previously she spent several years working in commercial archaeology and providing Local Planning Authority archaeological advice as part at Tyne and Wear Archaeology Service. As part of her role she has overhauled the City of York Historic Environment Record (HER) recently making it accessible online and secured funding from Historic England to commission a large deposit-modelling project for the city. She is also involved in academic projects such as the York-Dublin Axis Reconsidered (University of Glasgow and York) and Roman York Beneath the Streets (Cambridge University). Abstract
